Christmas in Sequim - Merry Christmas everybody!

We just made it back from our 2-week vacation in Puerto Vallarta. Second time we were there, at an all-inclusive hotel in Bucerias, which is about 20 miles out of town. One can really get spoilt...no needs for shopping, great food (lots of fruits) with 5 specialty restaurants, peaceful adult pool and lots of stretches of empty beaches. After our return, our Sequim neighbors told us that we did not miss anything in Sequim. That it had been pretty rainy and gray even in sunny Sequim during that time of late November.

Ever since we have been back, we experienced our Sequim blue hole again, even if it's just for 2-3 hours a day. It's enough time for a nice walk in Carrie Blake Park, getting some decent exercise, watching the dogs at the dog park and feeding the ducks. Nice to see Sequim town and our neighborhood in all the festive Christmas decoration with lots of lights to brighten the season.

Feeding the ducks at Carrie Blake ParkNext day after our return I went to the Lazy Tree Farm, about 10miles west from Sequim, to pick up our Christmas tree which we had tagged before we left for Mexico. To our surprise, we were lucky another time and our wonderful blue spruce tree was still standing there. It was up to me to saw it off. It was pretty proud when I had finally accomplished this task. Now, the most beautiful Christmas tree is bringing joy and nature to our lovely new house.

Moving to Sequim on the Olympic PeninsulaWe wish all our Sequim friends and Sequim visitors a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Ever wondered what Christmas in Hawaii is like see here.
p.s.
Two good news from Sequim town:

Today, the Sequim Senior Center is celebrating Christmas with Christmas dinners at 11am and 2pm.

We recently found out that Sequim residents who don't have medications covered with a health plan, can pick up a Sequim RX discount card at the Senior Center or the Sequim library and save up to 20% on their meds. Why nobody at Wal Mart ever told us that, we have no clue but at least, we know now. We saved big on Keoki's recent meds! Go get your discount card for Sequim residents.

Thanksgiving Vacation In Sequim

Thanksgiving is looking around the corner with everybody making arrangements to reunite with family and friends or maybe taking some time off from the busy city and relax for an extended holiday weekend in Sequim on the Olympic Peninsula. Why not spend a Thanksgiving vacation in Sequim!

The weather is still nice enough to enjoy some outdoor activities, like hiking and biking the Olympic Discovery Trail or just walking Carrie Blake Park with duck pond and dog park or John Wayne Marina. The new restaurant at Sequim Bay Marina with beautiful views of the Bay and Mountains on the horizon invites you for a delicious lunch or dinner served at a special ambience with white table cloths and candle lights.

When you plan a drive to Hurricane Ridge in winter, always check the weather forecast first, so you won't get turned away at the entrance of Olympic National Park because your car is not prepared for the snow on the road to Hurricane Ridge. You may call the road and weather hotline at 360-565-3131 for current Ridge information. Also bundle up with a woolen cap, mittens and a scarf when visiting Hurricane Ridge in winter. Some winter boots come helpful! You can find information on the Hurricane Ridge Visitors' Center when ski and snowshoe rental start for the season, Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Routes and more.

Restaurants are preparing for the Thanksgiving crowd but if you want to just enjoy a homemade turkey meal without the hassle of cooking and starting the oven at your Sequim vacation rental, our two big markets, Safeway and QFC offer great complete turkey dinners with mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls and pumpkin pie for 6- 8people at prices of $40 - $45. This great turkey deal makes us even wonder whether we want to cook ourselves or just order in for us and a few friends.

Thanksgiving Vacation in Sequim can be fun. have a great Sequim visit for Thanksgiving. Greetings from the Sequimmers
p.s.
Nearly forgot to mention that SARC is closed for Thanksgiving but will be open all the other days for your fitness and relaxation needs with Olympic lappool, waterslide, saunas and jacuzzi. Sorry no luck with attending Keoki's Easy Stretch class, which is on Mondays and Wednesdays.

In case, you were wondering about the Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner. It is on Tuesday 11/20/07 from 11:30am - 1:30pm with food and entertainment $4 members and $10 non-members.

What's up at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim in Fall?

After filling you in on Keoki's Easy Stretch class at SARC, it's time to do an update on our regular Sequim life. With November weather having treated us extremely nicely so far with lots of sunshine - shift seems to happen right now, but Blue Hole 'enlightens' us daily - Carrie Blake Park, which is just around the corner from our new house still attracts a crowd of walkers, joggers, remote sailboat owners (they run races on the fish pond), dog owners, duck feeders and parents with kids.

We have much fun to watch all the different dogs at the fenced Dog Park one part for the little guys and another one for the big dogs) where they can run freely. The dog whisperer would love our dog park! The dogs play together, get a great workout and there is hardly ever a fight between them. An occasional talk with the dog owners can be a pleasant encounter too.

Best of all during our walks through Carrie Blake Park is our stop at the sunny bench by the duck pond. We made friends with them all. As soon as we stop, the ducks come to shore and wait for their bread. We have mostly a piece of flaxseed bread but also watch other people feed them an entire loaf of white bread. we don't know how healthy that is plus hope that the ducks won't forget how to find their own food, which will be even harder in winter.

Sequim Playground in Carrie Blake Park
If you live in Sequim and have kids, Carrie Blake Park is perfect with the duck pond for educating them about wild life in Sequim. Two terrific playgrounds with swings, slides monkey bars and more gives the kiddos a great workout. Hope to get a picture of our favorite ducks soon (always forget to take the camera). See you at Carrie Blake Park. The Sequimers

Sunny Sequim Weather in Fall !!!

Its as good as it gets in the Pacific Northwest. Is it time to hibernate in Sequim? Not Yet! Certainly Fall weather has arrived effecting our Sequim life each day with a color palette from golden yellow to dark reds, dahlias are still blooming in our flower beds but night temperatures are going under 50 degrees. It feels great to get the benefit of a heat pump and the ambiance of a wood stove.

For all those who still doubt the truth of the Sequim Blue Hole and our Sequim Rain Shadow weather, just a short account of these last 2 days. Ever since we moved to Sequim, 18mos ago, we have made it a habit to watch the weather forecast with Andy Wappler on KIRO 7 late news. Soon we realized though that the Seattle weather forecast and the actual Sequim weather are worlds apart. Best way to find out what Sequim weather will be like is to look out the window in the morning and watch what's happening. Yesterday Seattle and most of the rest of the Pacific Northwest were soaked in rain, coastal areas like Forks and Ocean View, Port Angeles and Seattle. Sequim did not get one drop of rain but had sunny weather all day for walks in Carrie Blake park and for bike rides on the Discovery Trail all day long.

Forecast for today was high winds and rain everywhere. OK admitted we woke up to really high winds and some rain, however by 10am the rain had abated though the winds were still quite cold. By noon the first blue hole showed up and by 2pm the sun was shinning through the clouds to the east and west. We had a wonderful walk through Carrie Blake park, visited the dog park and the duck pond with a amazing 72 degrees in the sun.

Sequim Pumpkin Patch is ready for Halloween.

Sequim and Sequim visitors are not ready to hibernate yet. We may not have huge Halloween celebrations or fancy haunted houses but we do have the Pumpkin Patch. This unique Fall happening coincides with the time of harvest in Sequim Valley.

Located on over 6 acres at the intersection of Highway 101 and Kitchen Dick Road, the Pumpkin Patch offers food and fun activities for all ages. The hours of operation are noon to 6p.m. Sunday thru Thursday and noon to 9p.m. Friday and Saturday until Halloween.

There is a maze cut through almost 6 acres of corn which can be navigated during the day or for a really spooky time try it at night using a flashlight. There will be horse and pony rides, wagon rides and u-pick pumpkins. One event you won't want to miss is the pumpkin catapult and you just might win yourself $100 if you can launch a small pumpkin with a giant slingshot into a waiting garbage can.

Come to Sequimon vacation and visit the Pumpkin Patch or the Hoh Rainforest as we did two weeks ago with our kids. Enjoy all the beautiful leaf colors of fall season. The Sequimers
p.s.
When on the way through Sequim or on your Sequim vacation, visit Sunny Farms, our favorite Sequim store for buying fruits, veggies and supplements. Right now, it's decorated with pumpkins all over. Don't miss that. It's that special pumpkin look of the season!

Visit to Hoh Rainforest on Sequim vacation.

For the first time since moving to Sequim, our children came to visit, one from Hawaii and the other from Alaska. They both flew into Seatac, in Seattle around 10pm and we drove to Sequim in a couple of hours.

After a good nights sleep we decided not to waste a lot of time and got on the road to the Hoh Rainforest. This 85 mile drive takes you through some of the most beautiful areas of the Olympic Peninsula. A few words from Wikipedia on the Hoh Rainforest follow:

"The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the few temperate rain forests in the world, and is also the largest. It is located on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state, USA. Within Olympic National Park, the forest is protected from commercial exploitation. This includes 38 km of low elevation forest (120 to 760 m) along the Hoh River. Between the park boundary and the Pacific Ocean, 48 km of river, nearly all of the forest has been logged within the last century.

Annual precipitation ranges from 3.6 to 4.2 m (12 to 14 feet). Summers are relatively dry, but only by comparison to the rest of the year. The late fall, winter and spring floods cause the Hoh River to regularly erode its banks, change its course, and deposit fresh terraces of alluvium that are soon colonized by Red Alder. Giant trees topple into the river increasing the diversity of aquatic habitats."

The Hoh Rainforest is home to a U.S. Park Service ranger station, from which backcountry trails extend deeper into the national park. We took a short, popular trail near the visitor center to the Hall of Mosses. After we had tried on our last visit to the Hoh Rainforest to catch the height of the trees and other impressions by photo, we did not try again this time. Remember the realtor's phrase ' You have to see it, to appreciate it!'.

We hiked for a couple of hours on the well defined trails and had a wonderful time. My son, who is from Hawaii, was amazed at the size of the Sitka spruce. The tropical rainforest of Hawaii doesn't see trees growing to such height and girth. When you make it to Sequim, put the Hoh Rainforest at the top of your things to do.

Visit to Hoh Rainforest on Sequim VacationAll in all, we had a wonderful time with the children. So many things to do in Sequim, so little time in a 1-week vacation! Now, the kids are gone and our Sequim vacation rental is again available for guests for a relaxing monthly Sequim vacation. Remember the vacation rental is perfect for all the folks who want to retire in Sequim, search for a Sequim Home to buy and basically get to know life in Sequim. We are happy to be of help. Greetings from the Sequimers

4th Annual Olympic Peninsula Health Fair in Sequim

This blog post is sponsored by Easy Stretch Video - Body/Mind Realaxation

Dear Sequim Town Blog visitors,
We are happy to see that more and more people, who intend to relocate to Sequim from California, Arizona, Colorado and even from Hawaii like us, find our blog useful for their moving plans to Sequim. Please, feel free to ask any question regards life in Sequim, weather or whatever. Please, use the comment button, so we can respond right here at the blog and other Sequim interested blog visitors can read it too.

As long time massage therapists in the state of Hawaii, we naturally pay attention to staying healthy through exercise, stretching, right eating and nutritional supplements. The 4th Olympic Peninsula Health Fair on Saturday September 15 at Sequim High School offers lots of health and wellness services. Free health screenings will be available such as blood sugar analysis and even up to 300 free tetanus inoculations. Over twenty more free screenings will be available as a gift to the community! You can bet that I will take advantage of as many as I can, as I am not on Medicare yet and my monthly premium of $300 and $5000 deductible does not cover any of those needed services.

Since this post is about health related issues, we should mention medical facilities and doctors in Sequim. There seem to be many to choose from when you first arrive but to tell you the truth it is not that easy is to find a doctor. Here is why. Keoki is on Medicare. We had to call several doctors in Sequim in order to find one which would still accept a Medicare patient. A doctor needs to make a living too and with Medicare just paying the doctors to get by, a lot of the Sequim doctors don't take new Medicare patients. So we were lucky when we found a great doctor for both of us.

As senior citizens we were concerned about having easy access to a hospital in the Sequim area. Sequim does not have a hospital at the moment but with our Sequim requirement community steadily growing we might see one soon. Currently the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles serves also for Sequim residents. With 15 miles from Sequim, it's in easy reach. The PA hospital is well equipped and patient service is decent. To give you peace of mind, the 911 Emergency Service in Sequim responds very fast to calls.

Stay happy and healthy in Sequim. We see you at the Health Fair. The Sequimers

Sequim Indian Summer Weather Perfect for Vacation

Dear Sequim visitors or those who plan a weekend vacation in Sequim this fall,
Remember my words in one of our recent blog post about Sequim summer weather and the predictions from a long time Sequim resident that fall weather will be living up to all our expectations. Whoever told us, the prediction has come true. Ever since the beginning of September Sequim is enjoying the most gorgeous Indian summer weather, the kind of weather which we normally have in July and August. Sequim, Olympic National Park and Victoria BC invite you to a great Sequim vacation.

Keoki is doing much better after his knee surgery. When we had our friends from Hawaii, now residents in NZ, stay with us at our vacation rental, we shared as many Sequim things to do as possible. We played some tennis on the courts of Sequim High School which are mostly available over the weekends and also during morning hours for public use. We had a great drive to Lake Crescent and enjoyed the moderate hike to Merrymere Waterfalls.

As Carrie Blake Park is just around the corner from our house, our friends did early morning walks through the park. On the last evening of their stay in Sequim, we went for dinner at Las Palomas, located on Washington St next to Ramada Inn. Everybody was happy with their food and the excellent service. It was very nice to hear all the praises about Sequim town, our new house and the great peaceful yet close to everything location. To tell you the truth we have so often answered the question 'How did you find Sequim for your your retirement?', so the answer comes quite naturally.

Before more friends come visiting - more friends from Hawaii who actually contemplate seriously moving to Sequim (this is their second visit to Sequim this year) - we enjoy every day, hour and minute of this Indian summer weather. We bike a lot and still pick berries at a friend's organic garden. Late raspberries and blueberries are still growing there. I checked with Graysmarsh Farm over a week ago. They are only open now Friday - Sunday and the only berries still available there are the blackberries but with wild blackberries growing everywhere in Sequim and area, it's just so easy to walk or get on your bike and pick wherever you find the blackberries.

Keoki's Stretch class at SARC has grown to a good size stretch class with average members 10 -12 a class. For many years, we have been selling his Easy Stretch video through health food stores, massage therapists, health practitioners and online. With technology moving fast to more and more people to buy DVD instead of the old fashioned video, we decided to do a big sale for our Easy Stretch video.

This sale is on as long as supply lasts. We want to get rid of all the videos and continue selling Easy Stretch as a DVD instead. It's a great gift for yourself or a loved one. Christmas is not so far away to think ahead of finding a healthy present. If you are interested in buying an Easy Stretch video at great discount price, call us today 360-504-1157.

Enjoy Sequim weather as much as we do! Greetings from the Sequimers

Visit Victoria BC on your Sequim vacation

Sequim summer weather is going to an end but we are expecting nice Sequim weather this fall for September. That's at least what long time Sequim residents tell us. Let's believe them.

Our recent guests at our Sequim vacation rental had a great time on their Sequim vacation. We made new friends with a couple from California who were using our monthly Sequim vacation rental for their Sequim house search. It was nice to see when they found what they were looking for...a nice Sequim house with water views of John Wayne Marina and Sequim Bay. They are very excited to be back soon and move into their new Sequim home.

Royal Empress Hotel Victoria BC, Victoria HarborOn their Sequim real estate vacation, they managed taking a day off for a relaxing visit to Victoria BC. They were the same enthusiastic about Victoria as we were. Actually, our friends from Hawaii who live now in NZ, also stayed in Victoria for 3 nights on their way to visit us in Sequim. They liked their visit to Victoria as well. So, we figured it's time to share our trip experience with our Sequim town blog visitors. No Sequim vacation is complete without a trip to Victoria!

There are so many things to do in Victoria BC or on Vancouver Island. It's quite interesting to hear what people decide to do. Our Hawaii friends did a Victoria Harbor Tour and enjoyed High Tea at The Royal Empress Hotel, which does not come cheap at $55/person but is definitely an experience to have tea at a 'royal' ambience and taste hors d'oeuvres, one does not come across normally. Our guests from California had a great time with a whale watch tour on an open Zodiac, where they watched up to 20 Orcas on their 3-hr whale watch tour. Butcharts Gardens Vancouver Island

Now, let's share with all Sequim visitors what we did last year in May when we spend 3 nights in Victoria BC. First of all, we had heard about all those great reports about seeing the magnificent flowers at Butchart Gardens. All the roses were in full bloom...fragrances, colors, varieties can't be described! Must see to appreciate! We will be back for more flowers at Butcharts Garden. Next time we'd like to see the fireworks on Saturdays between June 30 - September 1.

Royal Wax Museum Victoria BCWe also had a great time at the Royal London Wax Museum, even though after having seen the real wax museum in London, I must say it cannot live up to the expectations. The Royal BC Museum in Victoria was really impressive and educational. We split that into a morning and afternoon visit. Museums can wear you out. But most impressive was our visit to the IMax Theater where we watched the Humpback Whale migration to Hawaii (I had to close my eyes at times not to get dizzy but otherwise it was an indescribable movie experience!).

In any case, we could go on for ever on our visit to Victoria but that's it for today. Last but not least, we took the bigger Auto ferry from Port Angeles (more stable for me not getting sea sick) but if you travel to Victoria without your car, you might want to buy tickets for the faster but smaller Victoria Express Ferry from PA. Visit Victoria on your next Sequim Vacation! The Sequimers

Sequim Summer Weather News

We are back! Here is what happened in the meantime. Keoki got his surgery at the Port Angeles Hospital to get his torn meniscus repaired. Things went fine. Surgery was on Thursday last week. Monday he was back at SARC teaching his stretch class. Still has to take it easy at the moment, which is not easy for guys like him. But with the big goal of playing tennis at Sequim High School and go hiking in the Olympic Mountains again, he is more considerate than usual.

Everyboduy who visited Sequim this month for a vacation, was wondering what was going on with the summer weather in Sequim. Normally, July and August are the driest and the hottest months in Sequim and even in Seattle. Well, weather patterns and climates change everywhere. Keoki and I can only judge from the one August we had experienced in Sequim last year. No reason to complain then. Maybe sometimes some rain would have been welcomed by plants and residents. This August was having some rain plus temperatures were generally colder than regular summer weather in Sequim during the past years.

To tell you the truth. We both don't complain and are happy with what we get. Carpe diem or Seize the day! Yesterday, we picked 3 containers of fresh organic blueberries. Today I took a bike ride through Carrie Blake Park and beyond to find more good spots for wild blackberry picking. We could not have had any nice weather in Sequim today...sunny and blue skies all over. Not just a blue hole but an entire blue sky! Hope you had a chance to look at all the webcams today in Sequim and Sequim area like the Dungeness Spit, Hurricane Ridge and Crescent Lake. Beautiful!!!! Summer is the perfect time for your Sequim Vacation.

Last but not least, a few Sequim News. Enjoy your Sequim Vacation. The Sequimers

U-Pick Berries in Sequim

Berry picking in Sequim is still big time for U-Pick Berries for blackberries and blueberries at Graysmarsh Farm. I picked my last raspberries there over the weekend. You might still find some later ones. Don't pick the ones which are overripe. They don't taste good!

Stuntdrivers of Sequim

This Friday August 24th will show the World Champion Daredevils at Port Angeles Speedway, between Sequim and Port Angeles. Just telling you about the event. at 6:30pm Chantilly Lace will take the stage with a variety of Rock'n Roll tunes and 8pm the thrill show starts.

Movie in the Dark at Carrie Blake Park

Local Favorite Deadwood Revival will entertain on Tuesday night August 28, from 6- 8pm. Afterwads, the movie 'Fly Away Home' will be shown. No fees! Just show up with your car and enjoy the movie and some snack, like in the old days!

Sequim Things To Do on Sequim Vacation

Dear Sequim vacation visitors,

Hope you found our recent visit to the Seattle Pike Street Market of interest for your Sequim vacation. Today, we decided to share with you Sequim and Sequim Area Web Cams, which we think is a great tool for getting a first impression about things to do on your Sequim vacation.

Let's start with a glimpse of Sequim town looking East. Must admit there are better views of the town, like Views from Bell Hill over Sequim town, Victoria and the Straits de Juan de Fuca with snow-covered Mt. Baker in the back. So don't let this Sequim town web cam view disappoint you.
Downtown Sequim Washington Web Cam

We just recently wrote about the Sequim Lavender Festival with a Youtube video and had included a number of Purple Haze Lavender Farm photos on another post as an enticement to visit Sequim when the lavender is blooming. With a short 1 mile drive, Purple Haze Lavender Farm is just around the corner from downtown Sequim. Visit 10 acres of organic lavender fields!
Purplehaze Lavender Farm Web Cam

Recently, the Sequim Dungeness Lighthouse celebrated its 150th anniversary. Unfortunately, we nearly forgot to mention it. It was a big Sequim town celebration with lots of food and entertainment and facts to hear about the history of the New Dungeness LighthouseThe Dungeness Lighthouse is at the end of the Dungeness Spit, the longest natural spit in the United States. When planning a beach walk (more a hike) to the lighthouse, be aware that it's 5.5 miles one way. So plan a day trip with food, water and lots of sunscreen & a hat.

Dungeness Lighthouse Web Cam

We noticed that Port Angeles Harbor is not only visited by huge container ships but it's definitely a tourist meeting spot with lots of Olympic Peninsula events taking place and having food and gift stands all year round. Port Angeles Harbor is the docking point for the ferries to Victoria BC., the Coho and the Victoria Express. Our visit to Victoria and Butchart Gardens last year May (roses in full bloom!) was one of our most impressive weekend trips (3 nights). We plan to go back with our motor-home next time. No visit to Vancouver Island is complete without a visit to The Butchart Gardens.

Port Angeles Harbor Web Cam

Hurricane Ridge was our first adventure when we were on our Sequim vacation in September of 2005, before we made the final decision to move to Sequim to retire. Hurricane Ridge is a short drive into the Olympic National Park. We got surprised by the first snow of the season. Coming from Hawaii, we admired the snow flakes falling down. We did not last long though, as we were absolutely not dressed for the elevation of 5,000 ft and the snow! We were not the only visitors one could see that they were tourists. Some people even came in shorts and sandals. So be prepared when you go visit Hurricane Ridge. The weather at that elevation can change fast. Check the weather forecast for Olympics.

One of the nicest day trips when on your Sequim Vacation is a visit to Crescent Lake. Take you time, especially when driving the curvy road along the lake. Don't forget to stop occasionally at the lookout points. It's worthwhile it. You will be rewarded with the most peaceful panorama of the lake and the surrounding areas. You can have a wonderful lunch at Lake Crescent Lodge

and even spend the night at the hotel or the cabins. So far, we each time did a day trip, enjoying our own picnic while sitting on the Crescent Lake beach wooden chairs. Nothing can beat that. If you are not a big hiker, the walk (moderate) to Marymere Waterfalls is warmly recommend

Visit Seattle on your Sequim Vacation

Dear Sequim blog visitors,
Ever since we had moved to Sequim, I had heard so much about Olympic Peninsula people going to the Seattle Pike Market for some Seattle shopping or just having an excursion to the big city. Our recent guests at our Sequim vacation rental were also full of excitement about the Pike street market in Seattle. When you are staying for a month in Sequim, you should definitely spend a day or two in Seattle.

Well, I guess it was time to see for myself and pay Pike Market in Seattle a visit. Two of our Sun Meadows neighbors were up for the challenge too. Day and time was set fast. We decided to take the Bainsbridge Ferry which docks right downtown Seattle with a short walk to the market. We would just leave the car on our side of the Puget Sound and take it easy.

Driving Hwy 101, 104 and Hwy 3 to Bainsbridge was nice, easy traffic and beautiful Washington scenery passing by. Maybe we took a little too much time cruising along. So we actually arrived at Bainsbridge ferry parking a bit late, and none of us had a clue what to do. We parked the car and walked to the ferry where we saw the sign "Ferry Parking has to be paid in advance". How and where, we had no idea. There was no sign where we had left the car. I nice shop-owner told us we had to go back and get the number of our parking lot in order to pay for the day. We ran back, got the number, gave the nice lady the money to pay for our parking and ran in super-speed on the ferry. We just made it! Time to exhale!

Now, we could relax, have some morning snack and look forward to our Pike Street Market adventure. After a short ferry transit of 30minutes, we landed in Seattle and followed the crowd to the shops and restaurants along the Seattle Pier. Summer time! Beautiful weather! A big Seattle vacation crowd was walking up and down the street. We joined and found our way up a huge long staircase to Pike Market! Three floors of seemingly never ending shops and stands, selling fruits and veggies, flowers in all colors and sizes of bunches and prices and so much more. Fun to walk around and look at everything. We had a nice lunch with soup and steamed ginger salmon at a Chinese place (sorry but forgot the name).

After the street market, we were ready to visit the Seattle Aquarium. Admission is not cheap. $15 per person. It does not list any senior discount. When you are a senior, just ask for it. It saves you $2. We watched all that wonderful exotic and tropical ocean life for some time, touched the sea stars in the touch pools and watched the feeding of the Harbor Seals. All together, we had a great time at our Seattle Pike Market Outing.

We can really recommend the tour to anybody being here on a Sequim vacation. The ferry traffic on the Bainbridge side during afternoon hours is kind of stop and go. Maybe it's better to hang around Seattle a bit longer, visit the Seattle Space Needle and take a later ferry, but who knows. This is what we did.

Stay tuned for more from our Sequim life. Greetings from the Sequimers

Movie in the Dark at Carrie Blake Park

Oops, nearly missed the annual Sequim Dog Show but luckily we went for an afternoon bike ride through Carrie Blake Park and noticed all the tents and RVs and of course, all kinds of dogs! What fun, even when your are not a dog owner like us. We watched for quite some time the dog show competitions and were amazed how one judge was able to do all the selection and choose the winning dog. Seemed kind of subjective to us but what do we know. I guess this guy is kind of an expert like the Dog Whisperer!

Anyhow, we wanted to include a link to the dog show but were not able to locate one. Instead we found this site to the Carrie Blake Dog Park, which we mentioned in one of our posts about the Park. Sequim Dog Owners, if you don't know yet, this is a great place where your dog can socialize with other dogs, without being on a leash, and you can socialize with other Sequim dog owners.

We were busy welcoming our first guests at our Sequim 'Bell Hill View' Vacation Rental. Very nice couple from Colorado who want to do the big move to Sequim, maybe. It all depends how things work out with selling their house in CO and also getting new jobs in Sequim. We wish them all the best for their moving project! As Jason from Welcome Home Realty says, Sequim Real Estate is a buyer's market. This is the perfect time for buying a house or land in Sequim!

Looks like I got somewhat sidetracked with Dogs and Real Estate. So let's get back to the original issue. When you are on vacation in Sequim and want to experience something special, how about a night trip to Carrie Blake Park for a movie on Tuesday 31? The animated movie 'Happy Feet' will air at dusk on an inflatable big screen set up for the evening.

This movie at Carrie Blake Park will be the second this summer. The first movie was Grease. Drive your car to Carrie Blake Park, park around the bandstand circle, sit on the hood and take the show. The movie will follow a 6pm concert by Fat Chance, a Port Angeles based band. Don't miss the band or the movie. Sequim local sponsors are providing the free night of entertainment for you. See you at the dark at Carrie Blake Park. The Sequimers

Beautiful Sequim Vacation

Vacation in Sequim, Sequim Lavender Farm, Purple Haze Lavender FarmWell, our much awaited 2007 Sequim Lavender Festival is history. We had a nice crowd of visitors who joined the fun at the street market in Fir St with music, lots of lavender products to buy and great tasty food to eat. Fragrant lavender scent was in the air everywhere! The lavender farm tour buses were running all day long.

Sure it would have been nicer with sunshine - Sequim summer weather was beautiful before and after the Lavender Festival. How ironic! Sequim Gazette wrote that Sequim had 5000 visitors less at this year's festival. Whether the reason was the overcast weather or not.

Everybody had a great time and guess what we did not have to cope with hot temperatures over the 100 F as so many states had. It was already too much when Sequim temperatures reached a decade high of 94 F on one day at the beginning of July. We even ran our AC with our heat pump. We feel blessed with our moderate Sequim weather. Who wants hot, go to Mexico or just California!

I promised a few lavender photos. Here they are. I took them at Purple Haze Lavender Farm. The colors, the smell and the location! Come and see for yourself on your next Sequim vacation. Don't wait till next year. Sequim weather in August and September invite for some great week or weekend vacation...hiking the Olympic Mountains, biking the Olympic Discovery Trail, picking berries are all favorites of ours!

If you consider moving to Sequim, first come and visit Sequim for a vacation. When looking for real estate or a house to buy in Sequim, we happily share our experience with you. We are excited to help a couple from Colorado to give them our view of life in Sequim! More from sunny Sequim with the blue hole soon. The Sequimers

Sequim Real Estate Summer Analysis 2007

Dear Sequim Town blog visitors,
As we know that a lot of our Sequim blog readers are interested in moving and living in Sequim and therefore like to hear how the real estate market is doing in summer 2007, we asked Jason Lee from Welcome Home Realty on his current thoughts of the Sequim Real Estate market. Feel free to compare this one with his market analysis in April. Thank you Jason for sharing your realtor knowledge with us!

"Hello again to everyone interested in a Sequim lifestyle.
This is your midsummer update on our real estate market. Despite all the doom and gloom of the national news media the Sequim realty situation is very stable. Homes sales for the general Sequim area are down about 8% from the year before, which isn't too bad considering the nation as a whole. The surprising fact is that the average and median sold price of a stick built home is up approximately $2500 from last year. This tells me that while the number of sales has tapered off slightly, there is still more than enough demand to live here.

What's great about our market is that even with the relatively small slowdown in sales last year and this year our inventory of homes for sale has grown exponentially to where we have about 450 or so to choose from at any given time. This had led to the greatest buyers market we have seen in years.

Because of this and the need for good buyer representation I have decided that what Sequim needs is a Buyer's Agent. Thus a little over a month ago when my last listing sold, I stopped taking them and have gone to only representing buyers. Having a strictly Buyer's Agent is beneficial to people in that there is never a conflict of interest and concerns with the agent trying to push their own listings. Sellers always have an agent and are represented to the fullest, now buyer's have that option also. Enjoy the summer, come to Sequim if you're not getting enough sun."

Sequim Lavender Festival

Before we moved to Sequim at the beginning of 2006, we had done our homework and read everything what was available on this small retirement town on the Olympic Peninsula. Most impressive features apart from the amazing beautiful location of Sequim, embedded in Sequim Dungeness Valley between the Paicific Ocean and Olympic Mountains, was the special Sequim weather & the love for festivals. It was then that we heard for the first time about Sequim is the lavender capital of the world and about the Sequim Lavender Festival!

We already talked at our Sequim Town blog about a number of other big festivals, one of the biggest and oldest is the Sequim Irrigation Festival. The Sequim Lavender Festival is much younger but as it is in the middle of summer and people spending some fun vacation on the Olympic Peninsula anyways, it seems to attract many more visitors from other states and even around the world. The 11th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival takes place July 20, 21, & 22, 2007.

If you have not booked your vacation rental or Sequim B&B yet, you might be already out of luck. Here are a few Sequim Hotels & Lodges you want to try.

City of Sequim Lodging
Sequim Econo Lodge
Sequim Ramada Inn
Sequim Sunset Marine Resort

When here on your Sequim vacation or coming for a visit to the Sequim Lavender Festival, get the most out of your stay and join the eight beautiful Farms on Tour in the stunning Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Enjoy the fragrant essence of purple lavender fields swaying in the breeze, the seemingly never ending fields of beautiful purple lavender plants and the many tastes of lavender. Visit the Street Fair, featuring Northwest crafts and Olympic Coast cuisine. Join more than 35,000 visitors from all over the world in this glorious Festival!

As newcomers to Sequim, we liked the recent articles in the 'Sequim This Week' about two big Sequim Lavender Farms. Owners Randy and Pam Nichols started their lavender farm Jardin du Soleil Lavender in 1999 and have turned it into one of the regions most successful oil producers. With the lavender festival approaching, they are preparing to greet thousands of fans of the unique fragrant calming herb. They offer a wide variety of lavender products at their farm store and through their online store at JardinDuSoleil

Another successful Lavender Farm in Sequim is Cedarbrook Lavender & Herb Farm which celebrates its 40th anniversary. This lavender farm is the state's oldest and first herb farm New owners Gary and Marcella Stachurski, who bought the farm in 2005, watch over thousands of lavender plants and other herbs and flowers. They feel lucky to be part of the history of the oldest lavender farm in the state.

In preparing for their third Sequim Lavender Festival they told Sequim This Week that they have plenty of surprises for people who visit their farm. One open secret is their new restaurant Cafe Provence (former Petals) will have music each evening and serve a buffet-style meal to limit waiting time.

The Sequim Lavender Festival is a production of the Sequim Lavender Growers Association. The SLGA is comprised of over 30 lavender farms in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Find out more on the SLGA website. For Lavender Festival Information email 877-681-3035 (toll free).

With our visit to Sequim lavender farms at the festival, we will try to snap some good shots of lavender fields and flowers. It's not just for our blog. We also intend to make those into beautiful photos. Wal Mart offers this great service to make your photos into posters. We see you at the 11th Sequim Lavender Festival. Don't forget we have a leave a comment button. Sequim vacationers and vistors love to hear from your and your visit to the festival.
Thanks a lot. The Sequimers

Pick berries in Sequim

Dear Sequim visitors,
One of our first posts when we started our Sequim town blog reporting casually about our retired life in Sequim, one of the best retirement town in Washington state, was about picking berries in Sequim.

We were impressed by the variety of berry farms in Sequim which offered u-pick berries. Ever since the beginning of berry season this June - remember we noticed that strawberries were ripe very early this year due to the nice weather - we are regularly picking fresh berries for our morning cereal and just for eating them by themselves.

We woke up to a nice sunny Saturday morning this weekend (some early fog lifted soon). At around 10am I took off for picking strawberries at Graysmarsh Berry and Lavender Farm for u-pick berries. After I had picked enough strawberries, I decided to check on the raspberries and believe it or not, there were already quite a number of ripe and sweet fruits (they need to fall into your hand, otherwise they are not ripe).

Well, we were not done picking berries for the day. We decided we check on the blueberries (great anti-oxydants) of a small organic garden where we had picked last year. We were really lucky and picked 1/2 lb of great ripe early blueberries and even some sweet Rainiers cherries.

Well, this is your chance to stay in good health with fresh, vitamin rich berries. Enjoy berry season in Sequim. Greetings from the Sequimers

July 4th in Sequim

Dear Sequim town residents and visitors,
Here is a short update on our Independence Day. What a nice celebration of the 4th of July we had! The gorgeous summer weather was enjoyed by everybody to the fullest. First, we got to know new neighbors at our new Sequim house neighborhood of Carrie Blake Park area. The pot luck food was delicious. We definitely made new friends as well. It goes without saying that we will join the next July 4th pot luck party next year.

In the afternoon, we went to Carrie Blake Park for listening to the Sequim City Band on the big park stage. There was quite a crowd assembled. We did stay for about half an hour and then left for attending the next pot luck party.

Our good friends from our 'old' neighborhood in Sun Meadows had invited us. We caught up on the latest neighborhood and Sequim town development. This town is growing daily. Not all appreciated by residents but this comes with progress. Seeing more and more big businesses settle in Sequim and new townhouses and condos develop, only proves that it's a wise decision to invest in Sequim real estate. The market value of our Sequim houses will go up.

We had a wonderful time with lots of friends and great BBQ, appetizers and lots of good cake. Too much to eat but we loved it. Thanks so much to our good friends Gail and Gayle for putting this great party for over 30 people together. We will remember this July 4th in Sequim!

The day ended with a spectacular firework which Sequim residents all over town put on for us. We watched at least for half an hour magnificent fireworks! With our 180 degrees vies of Sequim, we were loving this Sequim firework show.

We would like to thank those who already contributed to our 'Sequim Restaurants - Where to eat' post. Please, join and let us know about your favorite place to eat in Sequim. Greetings from the Sequimers
