USA Today picks Sequim as Best Northwestern Small Town

What a surprise to see Sequim get chosen as the Best Small Town in the Northwest among 20 others in WA, OR, AK, ID, MT and WY. This win will definitely influence people's decisions to visit Sequim or even to move to this lovely small town with big town amenities as we did 10 years ago.

The last snow before spring 2017

It seems Sequim received this precious award just at the right time. Sequim's Irrrigation Festival Grand Finale continues on this weekend with multiple events:
Grand Parade on Saturday, Logging Show, Hot Rod & Harley, Strongman Show and more.

Sequim Irrigation Festival 2016

Not only that we celebrate Sequim's 122nd Irrigation Festival and got awarded with the Best Western Small Town, Spring is in full bloom with the lovely sweet
scent of Lilacs and colorful Rhodies everywhere after tons of daffodils in Sequim residents' front yards.

Real Cherry Tree promises big 2017 harvest

The run for a nice house in Sequim to buy, keeps realtors already very busy with several bets on houses for sale. Inventory is low and the competition is big for what's available. Ask our friend Tom Blore whose "pending" signs are all over town. Do what we did, research the area, make a list of houses you are interested in and then set up a vacation for a real visit. Don't buy 'unseen', even if it sounds more than tempting.

Photos from the Sequim Irrigation Festival 2016

The entire week we had the nicest summer weather in Sequim. Then Sequim Irrigation Festival weekend with the Grand Parade comes up and the weather changed totally around. It did not take away the spirit and enthusiasm of Sequim residents and visitors. Have a look for yourselves at the Downtown Sequim Parade in Washington Street:

Looking forward to seeing you at our next year's 122nd Sequim Irrigation Festival.

Sequim started its 121st Irrigation Festival

When Washington's longest running festival started Friday May 6th in Sequim, I was right there 'downtown' - not that Sequim visitors can get lost in our downtown area! I was actually going for one of my visits to the Sequim Gym, when I noticed the many tents already set up across Washington Street for the Saturday Farmer's Market with arts and crafts and many green veggies in pots - some still teeny tiny and others nice, big and juicy looking ready for harvesting.

For more information on the festival events this week, visit IrrigationFestival or SequimGazette. The Grand Finale Weekend this week includes the carnival, Sequim History Walking Tour, Logging Show, Truck and Tractor Pull, golf tournament and more. My favorites are the Fireworks on Friday night May 13th 9:30pm and the Grand Parade the next day May 14th 12 noon - 2pm.

The 116th Sequim Irrigation Festival 2011 has started

Our Sequim Irrigation Festival celebrates the initiation, development and support of the irrigation ditches which brought water to the once dry areas of Sequim. After a somewhat tougher winter than usual for Sequim moderate weather standards, the Irrigation Festival will be a way of welcoming spring everywhere in Sequim. This year we will have more events than ever. We mostly hop on our bikes and can easily visit our favorite events like the Logging Show in Carrie Blake Park and the 'Grand Parade' in Sequim town at noon May 14th.

There will be so many more Sequim events at this Sequim Irrigation Festival 2011. Come and see for yourselves. The Peninsula Daily News gives you the entire calendar of events for family and kids.

Last but not least, this will be the fourth year for fireworks at the Logging Show events on Friday night May 13, 2011, 9:30pm making it a spectacular 116th Sequim Irrigation Festival!

Sequim Irrigation Festival 2008 Photos

Before starting our new post about our visit to the Sol Duc Hot Spring Resort, we have to show you our photos from this year's 2008 Sequim Irrigation Festival. The festival had been a big success as usual and even Sequim weather showed sunshine for the Grand Parade on Saturday.

We had the best seats for Friday night fireworks at Carrie Blake Park, right on our balcony. I took some photos but was always pushing the button too late. Too bad the firework photos did not come out the way I expected it but most important the firework itself was a great display of colors and shapes on the Sequim night sky. Hope I will be more experienced next year to take firework photos. Well, here is our display of photos of the Grand Parade of the 113th Sequim Irrigation Festival. Washington Street was all lined up with lots of chairs and families, old and yound, cheering to festival participants. We noticed the same enthusiasm and excitement by participants and spectators alike as we saw the last 2 years of our moving to Sequim. We love living at small town Sequim with big town amenities. Our premier location between water and Olympic National Park makes Sequim a top vacation destination for hiking, biking, berrie picking and just relaxing. Plan your Sequim Vacation today.

Sequim Irrigation Festival -113 years old.

You may have missed the beginnings of the Sequim Irrigation Festival however there is much more to come.. On May 8th & 9th, the Funtastic carnival begins at 5pm on the Sequim High School green field.

On Friday May 9th you can attend the Crazy Days breakfast at the Elks Lodge on Port Williams Rd starting at 7am. Not sure of the cost on this one however businesses and individuals come in costume and perform skits so should be lots of fun and a breakfast to boot.

Friday May 9th also has the Logging Truck and Tractor Pull. This is an event for all ages featuring axe throwing, pole climbing, lawn mower races, tractor pull and more. Plus food stands.

Hang around after the logging show for the Fireworks display at 9:30pm

Saturday May 10 is the best Salmon Barbecue on the Olympic Peninsula, being served from 11am to 6pm at the Trinity United Church next to Carrie Blake Park.

May 10th also features the Super Cruzz Parade and Car Show. The parade starts at 11am down Washington St and the car show is in the Walmart parking lot.

Last but not least to round out the week is the 113th Irrigation Parade with entries from all over the Peninsula and beyond. Get your family together and find your best spot along Washington St, it starts at noon and is good fun.

Hopefully we will have some that fine weather I mention in my previous post.
Enjoy the festivities.....Keoki

Sequim Irrigation Festival

Sequim Irrigation FestivalYes, Spring has arrived in Sequim and with it Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula and even areas in Seattle get ready for the 112th Sequim Irrigation Festival May 5th - May 12th, 2007. Whether you live in Sequim or are just visiting on a Sequim vacation, you don't want to miss it. This is a one of a kind.

To tell you the truth what we loved best at our first visit to the Sequim Irrigation Festival last year a few months after we had moved to Sequim was the Grand Parade in Downtown Sequim. The weather cooperated with beautiful sunshine. Washington Street was lined up with tons of people enjoying the beautiful parade of floats, marching bands, cheer leaders and cars. One has to experience the atmosphere and connectionSequim Irrigation Festival Grand Parade between paraders and their audience. The applause and cheers by the spectators were non stop.

By the way, the Sequim Irrigation Festival celebrates the initiation, development and support of the irrigation ditches which brought water to the once dry prairies of Sequim. The theme for this year’s festival is "112 Years and Still Rockin’", with a 50’s Rock and Roll concept.

We are looking forward to another great Sequim Irrigation festival with Arts and Crafts Fair, Kids Parade, Strongman Competition, Logging Show and last but not least the Grand Parade through Sequim. We see you there! Greetings from the Sequimers
