Sequim Town Blog About

Dear Sequim Town Blog visitors,
Welcome to our Sequim Town Blog 'About' page. We decided to tell you a bit more about us and this blog than the short blogger profile glimpse on the side bar. We changed recently our old blog title and description, as we wanted to focus more on our personal aspects of our life in Sequim as retirees who moved to Sequim from Hawaii.

Let's put it in a few more humble words. This is not another corporate website but a blog, a weblog about all aspects and facets about us 'Moving to Sequim' and our 'life in Sequim'. If you plan to relocate to Sequim, spend a monthly vacation in Sequim and see for yourselves before buying a new home in Sequim.

Who are 'The Sequimmers'?

We received several emails in the past asking us whether we are realtors in 'disguise'. To tell you the truth, we are not! We, the Sequimmers Heidi & Keoki, are regular folks like all of you. Yes, we supported and support efforts of friends to sell their Sequim Home. Nothing wrong with helping some friends.

In addition, we mention Sequim real estate issues frequently because they play a major rule in this retirement town on the Olympic Peninsula, and we all know it. It never hurts to know more, especially for people who move from California or Arizona or Hawaii, as we did, to Sequim.

What is the goal of Sequim Town Blog

When we decided to leave Hawaii at the end of 2005 and start our retirement life somewhere else around the globe, we started the biggest Internet research campaign we ever did but to be honest, that did not get us anywhere. In our first Sequim blog post we mentioned our consideration to choose Thailand, Costa Rica or New Zealand as retirement places.

The real input came from real people, friends and even guests at our Hawaii vacation cottages. First time when we heard 'Sequim', we did not pay much attention but when we repeatedly heard people raving about Sequim, we started the second phase of our research about Sequim.

We searched all kinds of search terms for Sequim: Sequim weather, Sequim homes for sale, Sequim real estate, Sequim vacation rentals and homes, Sequim life, Sequim town and more. Each time we learned more about this magical 'Sequim' what it means, how the word is pronounced, that there is little rain, that it has a blue hole and more. We got excited when we found blogs or sites from real people, not businesses which wanted to sell us something, but we appreciated people's ideas and experiences what it took to move to Sequim.

This is what this Sequim Town blog is about...our ideas and experiences in Sequim! We are pretty enthusiastic and optimistic in our Sequim articles (most of the time!) because we fell in love with Sequim. We like living here! Well, if you contemplate moving to Sequim, sign up by email for reading the next post. You may also sign up to our feed which is for the savvy Internet people. See both options on the sidebar above our Sequm weather logo.

Don't worry there won't be too many emails in your inbox. We like to do other things too. We love to go to SARC where Keoki is teaching his Easy Stretch Class (Mo + Wed 10:30am), bike the Olympic Discovery Trail, hike the Olympic Mountains, go on trips and more. Taking care of our Hawaii sites HawaiiAffordable and Kohala CoastWeb + our Hawaii Blog does not leave much time to 'retired' life, which keeps us mentally and physically in shape.

We intend to tell people as much as we can about this town and life in Sequim. However, our blog visitors would like to hear from other people too, not just us. Please, join the discussions by commenting. Click 'leave a comment', sign in 'Name/URL' (if you have one, add it with htttp://, if you don't, leave URL blank) or 'anonymous' and write what you think. Let's make this a virtual meeting place for residents and Sequim visitors. We'd love to hear from you soon. Greetings from sunny Sequim.
p.s.
Last but not least, a recommendation for those who intend to move to Sequim. Do what we did! Come for a Sequim vacation and get a feel for the town, the area and the people. We promise you you want to come back for good!!!

Sequim Restaurants - where to eat in Sequim?

Sequim Restaurants

When on your Sequim vacation on the Olympic Peninsula, who wants to cook each evening after lots of hiking or biking or kayaking the ocean?! Not me! We shared with our Sequim Town blog visitors on our recent 7 Cedar Casino post that you can combine entertainment with having some decent food at a good price at the 7 Cedars Casino restaurants.

In addition to the all you can eat buffet option, you can also sit at a table at the Totem Bar & Grille and choose from a regular menu. Seems like good food at decent price. We took a menu sample with us, so we know what we can expect next time, when we want to give the Bar restaurant a try.

Well, before we continue talking about Sequim restaurants we have to admit that we are not going out a lot. At most holidays, we or our neighbors, do a Pot Luck. Nobody can cook and bake at that variety as a pot luck can. We are looking forward to our 2 pot lucks we will be attending on July4 th, one at lunch in the Carrie Blake Park neighborhood and another one with BBQ later in the afternoons at Sun Meadows.

Ok let's get back to the restaurants. Here are the ones we visited. Please, visit our blog again. Sequim Restaurants 2014 are coming soon with all the updated information on new restaurants.

Keoki wanted to go to Applebee's badly. When he got his wish fulfilled, he was a little disappointed but again he chose something which he was not so sure about. I was happy with my food (can't remember what I had). I was not so happy about the loud music but that is their understanding of creating cheerful atmosphere. Some easy going background music would keep guests much longer for a drink or a dessert. If I want to go for a fast, casual meal, I might go again to Applebee's. Applebee's is located at Sequim River Road Exit of Hwy 101.

OK Keoki loves Mexican. So when I was on a trip to Germany, he went to Las Palomas Mexican Restaurant in E.Washington, next to the entrance of the Ramada Inn. He liked the Mexican food a lot and wanted to take me there. However, the a friend in Sun Meadows told us that El Cazador is much better. Well, next time when Keoki wanted to eat Mexican, we ended up at El Cazador. I am not a big Mexican eater. All these places seem the same to me but to tell you the truth, Keoki said next time he will go back to Las Palomas. He still needs to take our contractor out for dinner and that is where they will go.

Before finishing this Sequim restaurant posts, I want to mention Papa Murphy's Pizza. You call 360-683-8102 and order what you want on your pizza, pick it up and bake it at home. Great casual dinner when playing cards with friends or relaxing after your Olympic National Park hike. You will get a coupon for a discount for your next pizza. Keep it at a good place. You will order another pizza from Papa Murphy's soon. Sequim Papa Murphy's is in Safeway Shopping Center.
Find a few more Sequim restaurants websites below.

More feedback from us and our friends on our visits to Sequim restaurants will be added here. We'd love to hear from you about your dining or lunch experience at Sequim restaurants. Eat well!

What to do on your Sequim Vacation?

First a short update, on our Sequim vacation rental projects. A lot of our Sequim friends who have seen our 1Bd/1Ba guest apartment are already very excited to spread to word to their friends about this vacation apartment. Top privacy, Bell Hill views, high speed Internet for laptops, select comfort bed and recliner love seat are one of the favorite features. But it's family first. If the vacation stay dates for our families are all figured out, we will announce and share the new rental information. Get to know Sequim with a monthly Sequim vacation.

Today, we want to mention another fun activity for your Sequim vacation. Besides all the hiking in the National Olympic Park, biking the Olympic Discovery Trail, pick fresh berries at U-pick berry farms in Sequim, visit lavender farms for their latest fragrant products, there is another fun activity we did not mention yet. Fun, providing you come with the right attitude plus don't get addicted and get carried away. Yes, you guessed it. It's the gambling at the 7 cedar casino, which is a short 5 mile drive from Sequim town.

Gambling in SequimWell, to be honest, when we gambled last year a few months after having moved to Sequim we lost our $10 and $20 in less than 5 minutes. Ouch! That taught us a lesson and we never returned to the Casino, despite of our Sun Meadows neighbors telling us about their frequent winnings. To tell you the truth, I never really believed it. Well, here is the story. The other day, we decided to join some friends for lunch buffet at the 7-Cedar Casino. It's the all you can eat lunch and it was Mexican lunch. For the price we paid ($5.99 a lunch per ticket) and the food variety, it was a more than a decent meal. So we figured, a little gambling is allowed.

To cut a long story short, I played a little longer this time with my $10. Maybe 30 minutes. That's at least some fun. But here is the interesting part that friend of ours who always tells us that she wins, not always but quite often, really won again and left the casino with $85 (spent at least $20). She was happy as could be. And again, some good food and fun gambling entertainment (would have loved to come home with some extra bucks!) is something to do on your Sequim vacation. We will talk about Sequim Hotels and Sequim Restaurants next time. So stay tuned. Greetings from the Sequimers

More Summer Events at Carrie Blake Park

It is soooo amazing what visitors can do when on a Sequim vacation on the Olympic Peninsula. It's not just all the great fun activities one can do here - kayak the Pudget Sound, hike in Olympic National Park, bike or walk Olympic Discovery Trail, go fishing at our rivers and so much more - the fun things to do are right here in the center of Sequim.

Driftwood sculpture ExhibitionToday we visited the 38th Annual Driftwood Sculpture Show at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. It is organized by the Peninsula Driftwood Artists. The driftwood artists showed their 'art' work and many people came to admire their works during June 14 - 16. We were very impressed what these artists had created with their finds of driftwood and their personal imagination and their skills and patience. We could not resist and took a few photos of works like 'Circular Motion' and other fancy mystic names. Photos will be downloaded soon.

Maybe, since we are done now with our Sequim house construction - don't mention landscaping - we will be looking for some unique driftwood pieces on the beaches and bank of Dungeness River and make our own special pieces of art?! Well, to be honest, right now we contemplate another option. With our many years in the vacation rentals in Hawaii, we consider starting a 1Bd/1Ba Sequim vacation rental in our guest apartment.

We noticed that Sequim vacation rental homes for couples and singles at affordable rates are rare. Of ourse, there are always the Sequim hotels for a 1-night stay but for a 3-day stay or longer, it would be so nice to have your own private 'home away from home'. If we pull it through, we wanted to start on July 1st to be ready for Sequim vacation summer season with the Lavender Festival coming up.

So stay tuned for updates on our Sequim Vacation Rental project. We got the name: 'Bell Hill View Vacation Rental'! With our high speed Internet access for laptops and long distance free vonage phone, Bell Hill View Rental would also be perfect for your Sequim vacation when interested in buying Sequim real estate. Already interested in staying with us, feel free to email us with subject: Sequim Vacation Rental. Til next time. The Sequimers

Sequim Summer Events in Carrie Blake Park

Dear Sequim visitors and residents,
The City of Sequim just announced their Summer Fun Program for the stage in Carrie Blake Park. So, mark your calendars for the summer fun at the James Center for the Performing Arts. The music program will be Tuesday nights from 6 - 8pm, starting July 3 all the way through September 11 with Rock/Oldies, Blues, Jazz, Swing, Beatles Review, 60s and more.

In addition, three outdoor movies will be shown this year: 6/26 Grease; 7/31 Happy Feet + 8/28 Fly Away Home. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, family and friends to enjoy the live music and movies. Hey isn't that great that we are just around the corner. We will definitely be there for some of the live-music nights. I guess we leave the movie nights to the young folks and prefer our comfort of home.

Last but not least, some important information for berry pickers like ourselves. We picked last year from June to September strawberries, raspberries and blueberries at Graysmarsh Berry Farm. Yummie. Due to the sunny weather strawberries ripened early this year and are ready for U-Pick berries at Graysmarsh Berry Farm. Open Monday - Saturday 8am - 4pm and Sundays 10am - 4pm. Drive 3 miles on Sequim Dungeness Way, the 1 mile on Woodcock Rd or follow the signs to Graysmarsh.

Our new Sequim Home

New Sequim Home with Mountain ViewsDear old and new friends,
Hooray, we finally moved into our upstairs quarters two days ago! Hard to describe how good that feels, even though the house walls are full of little blue stickers where the painter needs to patch up some blemishes and electric sockets need to be aligned. But who cares.

We are in after six months of house construction! As said before we enjoy the most beautiful mountain views of the Olympic Mountains and Bell Hill. Whether we sit at our breakfast table in the kitchen or on the couch in the living room or TV-room, we cannot say enough 'Aaah the views'! Hopefully, we will never get tired of enjoying the views.

We are wasted from all the moving but could not resist to already install flower boxes are on both balconies., always with the anticipation of taking inside and outside photos soon. Here is a first photo to awaken your interest for more. So stay tuned. More photos coming soon. Greetings to all Sequim friends from the Sequimers
p.s.
Sorry but we could not make it to the Sequim Walk and Bike . Just too much to do with moving into the new home. Now, comes the fun part...decorating and picture hanging. Landscaping will be a project for coming months.
